Join Gavin Francis and Kirsty Mills as they discuss their recent books – Gavin's The Unfragile Mind and Kirsty's Get Well Soon, both frank and revealing explorations of how we cope with illness and trauma, and how we can find resilience through curiosity, kindness, humility and hope.

Kirsty Mills works in pharmaceuticals and renewable energy. She was diagnosed with autoimmune liver disease aged 20, and in her early thirties, she decided to write a memoir about the impacts of chronic illness. She aims to raise awareness of autoimmune conditions, reduce the stigma of liver disease, and advocate for organ donation. 

Gavin Francis is the  author of eleven books  of non-fiction, and writes  about medicine, culture,  and travel. Adventures in  Human Being (2015), was  a Sunday Times Bestseller and won Saltire Non-Fiction Book of the Year 2015, was the Observer’s Science  Book of the Year. Shapeshifters: On Medicine & Human Change (2018), was a book of the year in the Sunday Times and the Scotsman. His most recent travel book is The Bridge Between Worlds – a Brief History of Connection (2024). He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
