Stories of Nairn/ Sgeulachdan Sgire Inbhir Narainn - creating 20 stunning storytelling flags with Kinetika
In celebration of ‘Scotland’s Year of Stories’, and in partnership with International arts company Kinetika and Highland artist- storyteller Lizzie McDougall, we are working with local community groups to develop ‘Stories of Nairn’ . This will be a collection of 20 stunning silk flags, encapsulating in striking visual form, just some of Nairn’s stories – who we are, what we love about our town, where we come from, and the characters, histories, languages, myths and legends that make up the identity of Nairn, and the wider area of Nairnshire.
We invited community groups of all ages to take part in a series of workshops in May, sharing their stories with Lizzie and working to design and illustrate them, to be transformed into beautiful flags.
This project has been supported by the Year of Stories 2022 Community Stories Fund. This fund is being delivered in partnership between VisitScotland and Museums Galleries Scotland with support from National Lottery Heritage Fund thanks to National Lottery players.
Get involved! Come and join in the workshops painting the silk flags between 20th and 30th July (10am – 4pm) at Nairn Community and Arts Centre, led by Kinetika’s artistic director Ali Pretty. We are inviting all the initial workshop participants and anyone else who might be interested in taking part. Please get in touch for more details at firstname.lastname@example.org
