Tour - Pictish Queen at Portmahomack, Tarbat Discovery Centre, carved Stones en route and Clava Cairns

With expert guides Mike and Alison Morrison, travel a Pictish heritage trail to visit Portmahomack and the Tarbat Discovery Centre, where within a historic restored church we will learn the story of a lost medieval Pictish monastery dating from the 6th -8th Centuries.
This monastery was one of the few places in Europe where highly skilled monks used animal skins to make vellum. These cured skins supported manuscript writing traditions linked to treasures such as the Book of Kells. The carved Pictish Stones on display in the Centre show the rich blend of Christian and native symbolism. Our route back will include visits to Pictish stones at Nigg, Shandwick and Hilton of Cadboll, and a visit to Clava Cairns, a 4000-year-old Bronze Age Cemetery of passage graves and standing stones.

The tour includes luxury bus travel, with two guides and driver. Please note that ticket price does not include lunch or refreshments.

The meeting point is Nairn Community & Arts Centre. From there, we will walk to the Bus Station where the coach will be waiting.
