Saturday 31st August
11.00am - 4.00pm
Join us as Nairn Book & Arts Festival takes over Nairn High Street and The Brae for the day with free outdoor activities and live music, featuring performance pop-ups from Nairn Youth Theatre, roaming poetry with ‘Walkaboot Bard’ Hamish MacDonald, local choirs at Castle Square including Kinloss Peace Choir, the incredible portrait artist William Mather, and mischievous fun from the Mad Hatters of Moray. Get involved and have a go at pavement art with professional street artist Fresh Paint, practise your circus and aerial skills with Fly Agaric Performing Arts, and join in with Clive Grewcock’s hilarious Green Suitcase poetry show. Then at the end of the day don your wildest costumes and join Nairn Pipe Band for the ‘Walk on the Wild Side’ fancy dress parade!
Marc Delaye – Fresh Paint - Pavement art sessions
Get involved and have a go at street art on Nairn High Street with professional mural artist, Fresh Paint. Learn the basic skills needed to bring your ideas to life and then unleash your imagination on the High Street, with inspiration and pointers based on the festival’s theme ‘Wild Sides’.
Clive Grewcock - Green Suitcase
The small, neat and very green suitcase opens and from it comes imagination and participation. A family friendly show, led by Lance Diamond. From the moment the first buckle on the green suitcase is opened the fun adventure of poetry, crazy verse and nonsense with words begins. This is a show with humour that all ages can appreciate and get involved with, as we learn about characters and our own imagination. You will be amazed how the world will ever fit back into the case.
Mad Hatters of Moray
Spot the Mad Hatters of Moray’s larger than life characters, Rosey and Posey the colourful Flower Pot Girls and Dolly Dotty the Lady Bug, on the High Street singing fun songs and offering lively interactions and story time sessions throughout the afternoon. There will also be plenty of photo opportunities for all the family!
Hamish MacDonald - Walkaboot Bard
Look out for poet Hamish MacDonald as he roams the shops, cafes and streets.
Fly Agaric Performing Arts
Come see the fabulous aerial antics of our circus professionals, and have a go yourself! There will also be all the tools of the circus to try out, spinning plates, juggling, hula hoops and more. Keep an eye out for our giant insectile stilt bug person, they are very friendly, but might look a little odd!
Nairn Youth Theatre
Don’t miss Nairn Youth Theatre as they present adapted extracts from A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Look out for the colourful bunting created by Green Hive volunteers, facilitated by BID.
Keep an eye on our Facebook page for further details and timings!
