Spotlight On... Music Events
With only five weeks left to go until Nairn Book & Arts Festival returns, we're highlighting all the brilliant music events we have lined up this year! There's something for everyone, with fantastic performances and talks from both established and up-and-coming performers at Nairn Community & Arts Centre, The Little Theatre, and Nairn Old Parish Church.

Words of Women

Prize-winning pianist Claire Habbershaw and critically-acclaimed soprano Susanna MacRae present Words of Women on Sunday 1st September, showcasing a dynamic interplay between music and dramatic poetry readings, prose, and letters, all seamlessly woven together to create a unique storytelling experience.
John Lunn
Wednesday 4th September, 6pm
Nairn Community & Arts Centre
Celebrated Scottish composer John Lunn visits the festival to discuss his award-winning career and a life's passion for music and creation stemming from his childhood in Scotland. Perhaps best known for scoring Downton Abbey, John’s CV also features the scores for Netflix’s The Last Kingdom, ITV’s The Grantchester Mysteries, and BBC’s Shetland.
Laudonia
Friday 6th September, 7.30pm
Nairn Old Parish Church
Laudonia presents The Thistle and the Rose with Scottish soprano Susan Hamilton and English lutenist Matthew Wadsworth. In an intimate programme, they celebrate some of the most beautiful repertoire for voice and lute from the British Isles including songs by Robert Burns and John Dowland, the celebrated English Renaissance composer and lutenist.
Northern Soul night
Friday 6th September, 8pm-late
Nairn Community & Arts Centre
Join us for a night of floor-filling Northern Soul tunes – on vinyl only. With guest DJs James McAlister, who runs the Perth Northern Soul Club, and Steve Willox, who started Northern Soul all nighters at the 62 club, a popular music hall in Aberdeen, and runs an annual Northern Soul weekend at Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom.
The Bookshop Band
Saturday 7th September, 5pm
The Little Theatre
The Bookshop Band formed out of a collaboration between award-winning songwriters and their local bookshop, writing songs inspired by the books of visiting authors. Join them at The Little Theatre for an intimate and magical concert, bringing books to the stage along with a multitude of instruments.
Findlay Napier
& Iona Lane duo
Saturday 7th September, 8.30pm
Nairn Community & Arts Centre
Widely regarded as one of the finest performers on the UK music scene, the brilliant Findlay Napier joins us to play songs from his new album Outsider.
Glasgow-based folk singer & songwriter Iona Lane will also perform, accompanied by Cammy Maxwell on double bass.
