Family events

There's loads of fun activities and events on offer for families at this year's Nairn Book and Arts Festival. Do you have creative little ones in your life? Sign them up to one of our adventure writing or monster mapping workshops! And be sure to join us for our two creative outdoor days on Saturday 31st August and Sunday 8th September, full of fun free activites, performances, and live music for all the family!

Monster Mapping 2

Monster Mapping with Tom Morgan-Jones
Saturday 7th September 
10.30am-12.30pm and 2pm-4pm
Come along and create your own new monster with the help of illustrator Tom Morgan-Jones. There will be draw-alongs full of monster fun, top illustrator tips and you will have the chance to create your own world where your monster lives. With top tips to help give your own pictures extra ‘grrr’ and ‘oomph’!

Adventure Writing with Sophie Martin
Sunday 8th September
2.15pm-3.15pm
Have you ever wanted to be a superhero? A dragon guarding a fairytale princess? A dinosaur from a far-off time? Writing the stories you want to hear is a skill that anyone and everyone can learn, if they’re just shown how. Come along to a fun, kid-friendly creative workshop where you, too, can learn the ABC’s of creative writing.

Town Centre Takeover
Saturday 31st August
From 11am
Join us as we take over Nairn High Street and The Brae with free creative outdoor activities, performances, and live music on Saturday 31st August. Including circus and aerial skills with Fly Agaric Performing Arts, pavement art sessions with Marc Delaye - Fresh Paint, 'Walkaboot Bard' Hamish MacDonald, the Mad Hatters of Moray, live music at Castle Square, and performances from Nairn Youth Theatre. Then join us for a 'Walk on the Wild Side' fancy dress parade with Nairn Pipe Band at 4pm - come in your wildest fancy dress!

All Town Centre Takeover activities are FREE and no need to book.

Festival Finale
Sunday 8th September
From 11am
Join us for a fun, family friendly day celebrating nature and creativity! To start off the day, come and join the 'Beasties and Butterflies Ball' parade with Guarana Street Band and The Penguin's Tuxedo, moving off at 11am from the Links car park and ending in Viewfield Park, where there will be willow weaving and creative activities with Amy NevilleNature 4 Health and Green Hive. Don't miss the live music at James's on the Putting Green, and environmental groups, stalls and activities, including William Mather Portrait Artist, Highland Wildlife Park, WDC Scottish Dolphin Centre, The Butterfly Conservation Trust, and Fox and Friends.

All Finale Day activities are FREE and no need to book.
